Did you know your REACH matters need follow-ups and updating even after the registration?
Once a company’s REACH registration is completed, the responsibility does not end there. The duties are set out in Article 22 of the REACH Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006.
Our REACH Follow-up Service ensures that your existing REACH registrations remain fully compliant throughout their entire lifecycle. REACH obligations do not end after successful registration. ECHA continues to monitor dossiers, request additional information, and update regulatory requirements. Likewise, the Consortium also has its own communication channel for delivering information and requests to member registrants. We make sure you stay ahead of these notifications and obligations.
REACH-IT is a system that serves as the central platform where ECHA posts all official communications, decisions, and compliance check notifications, making it the primary system we monitor to ensure no regulatory obligations are missed.
In 2024, ECHA conducted 313 compliance checks covering nearly 2,000 registrations for 272 substances.
As a result, 208 companies were asked to provide additional data to clarify potential long-term health and environmental risks.
Of the evaluations concluded for 241 substances:
Continuous monitoring of the ECHA’s REACH-IT portal and the Consortium’s communication platform is required to keep the registration valid and compliant. Many companies underestimate this post-registration phase, leading to serious compliance risks and penalties.
A client who had completed a REACH registration in 2023 received an unexpected compliance check notification from ECHA in summer 2025
ECHA attached the details of the check to the REACH-IT platform
The check was for verifying the company’s declared size
The deadline for submitting the required proof was 21 calendar days
Failure to meet the deadline (due to a late response or missed notification etc.,) would have resulted in an administrative charge of €19,900
On the same day
Accessed the REACH-IT platform to retrieve the compliance check documents
Reviewed and assessed the ECHA request
Informed the Client with a clear summary of the situation, next steps, the critical deadline and possible charges
Advised which supporting documents needed to be provided
During the checking process
Clarified the Client’s questions and provided continuous guidance
Closely monitored the deadline and followed up to ensure timely submission
Handled and tracked all communications with ECHA
All required documents were submitted on time
ECHA’s assessment result was positive after 2.5 months of review
The Client avoided the €19,900 administrative charge
ECHA (European Chemicals Agency) and the Consortium may send important messages through REACH-IT and other specific platforms, often with short deadlines (sometimes only 10–30 days).
Missing these notifications can lead to deregistration, loss of market access, penalties or non-compliance status.
Messages may concern SME company size verification, substance evaluation, dossier updates, tonnage verification, compliance check, or other new data requests.

An example of a REACH-IT message
REACH-IT is a technical system requiring familiarity with ECHA terminology and procedures.
Non-experts may overlook the regulatory meaning of certain messages (e.g. inquiry responses, evaluation decisions, completeness checks).
Incorrect or delayed reactions can lead to invalid registrations, fines or additional costs for resubmission.
Monitoring multiple accounts or registrations requires consistent attention and documentation.
Many companies do not have internal compliance staff dedicated to REACH follow-up.
Employees may change or leave, leading to loss of access or forgotten logins.
Companies must keep their registration up to date (e.g. new tonnage bands, composition changes, use updates).
Failure to update within the required time limits can lead to penalties or termination of registration.
Note: ECHA may initiate targeted compliance checks if updates are overdue.
REACH-IT messages involve ECHA communications to registrants
Consortium often uses emails or its own portal to deliver notifications to member registrants
Delays in internal forwarding or unclear responsibilities can cause missed deadlines or non-coordinated responses.
The REACH-IT portal may experience periodic maintenance or login problems.
Two-factor authentication or expired accounts can block timely access.
Shared accounts can create accountability and security concerns.
Invalid registration: Product can no longer be placed on the EU market.
Administrative fines: National enforcement authorities may impose financial penalties for non-compliance.
Reputation damage: Importers and downstream users lose trust in the supplier’s reliability.
Additional costs: Reopening registration, or repeating data sharing negotiations.
